Holy Trinity, Thanks and Praise to Thee

Holy Trinity, thanks and praise to Thee,
That our life and whole salvation
Flow from Christ’s blest incarnation,
And His death for us on the shameful cross.

Had we angels’ tongues, with seraphic songs,
Bowing hearts and knees before Thee,
Triune God, we would adore Thee
In the highest strain for the Lamb once slain.

Author: Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf

Year: 1727

This is a translation of Zinzendorf's German hymn "Heilige Dreieinigkeit, Dank und Preis sei dir" (often dated to 1727 or the late 1720s). The English rendering is commonly attributed to him as the original author; some sources note it was later adapted or translated within the Moravian tradition.
