This Epiphany hymn text first appeared in The Hymnal 1940 (Episcopal). John Hopkins Jr. (b. 1875) is the credited author; it is sometimes listed under the name John Henry Hopkins Jr. but is distinct from the 19th-century composer of 'We Three Kings'.
